At Indigenous Tattoo, we create Hand Poked Tattoo designs inspired by spirituality, indigenous cultures, authentic tribal tattoos and ignorant art. The deeper you look, you’ll find there’s more that connects all the different peoples on the planet than separates us. We’re all brothers and sisters. This is the inspiration for our work at Indigenous Tattoo. You can see more of our tattoo work in our hand poked tattoo gallery.
We started out by learning more about our own indigenous roots and immediate family history in Finland, Karelia, Scotland & England. We then began researching all kinds of authentic tribal tattoos and spiritual art, including Sak Yant (Thailand), Marquesan (Polynesian), Mehndi (Henna, Indian, Arabic), Iban (Borneo) & Haida (Native American). We also decided that since we were being inspired by traditional, indigenous and tribal tattoo designs, we also wanted to do our tattoos in a more traditional way. So we learned how to Hand Poke Tattoos instead of using tattoo machines. A Hand Poked Tattoo is also less painful and heals faster than a machine tattoo, but they take a little longer to apply.
